Sprained ankle treatment? Here's What To Do First

If you’ve just sprained your ankle, acting quickly and properly in the first 24–48 hours is key to reducing pain, swelling, and speeding up recovery. Here’s what to do first.

1. Stop and Protect the Ankle - As soon as the injury happens, stop all activity. Do not walk or put weight on the ankle.Use crutches if needed, Wear an ankle brace or wrap for stability.
2. Ice the Area Immediately - Apply an ice pack or cold compress for 15–20 minutes every 1–2 hours.Wrap ice in a towel (never put ice directly on skin), Do this for the first 48 hours to reduce swelling and numb pain.
3. Rest and Elevate - Give your ankle time to heal. Avoid weight-bearing activities.
