The condition known as Laryngeal Paralysis is one that concerns the total or partial failure of the arytenoids cartilages and the vocal cords when breathing in air. It happens when the cartilage flaps found in the larynx no longer function as they should. There are different causes of this condition in dogs but most times trauma, cervical infections, laryngeal muscle dysfunction, neurological causes, among others are factors to consider. Dog laryngeal paralysis is more common in certain breeds than others. Mountain dogs, German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies and Bull terriers are usually victims of this condition.
