The Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 (PSARA) is a landmark legislation enacted by the Government of India to regulate the functioning of private security agencies. With the rising demand for private security services across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, the PSARA Act ensures that these agencies operate under a legal and standardized framework, promoting accountability, professionalism, and national security.
Under the PSARA Act, no private security agency can operate in India without obtaining a license from the respective state government. The Act mandates that agencies fulfill eligibility criteria related to the background of the promoters, infrastructure, and training facilities. This includes ensuring that promoters do not have any criminal records and that the agency employs properly trained personnel.
