Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is a new frontier in the latest IVF that enables the embryos to be screened for genetic and chromosomal disorders prior to transfer.
PGT is most suited in cases of couples showing family composition of links with genetic disorders, advanced ages of motherhood, frequent failure of IVF or frequent miscarriages.
There are three kinds:
PGT-A (Aneuploidy) - Indicates irregular chromosome quantities
PGT-M (Monogenic) - Screens for particular inherited illnesses
PGT-SR - Screening of structural chromosomal rearrangements
The test entails the safe biopsy of just a few of the cells of the embryo (blastocyst stage) without destroying it.
