The central government on Wednesday (August 13, 2025) prematurely repatriated Santosh Kumar Verma (IRSS:1995), who was serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs, to his parent cadre.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the competent authority approved his repatriation on personal grounds, along with the imposition of an extended cooling-off condition before his next central deputation.
Verma’s initial appointment order was issued on February 1, 2025, for a period of five years. However, he has been relieved from his post after just six months of service in the department.
The move is part of routine cadre management, where senior officers are occasionally sent back to their parent cadres due to administrative requirements or personal grounds. Extended cooling-off conditions are generally imposed to regulate the frequency of central deputations, ensuring fair rotation among eligible officers.
