At Michael Bell Architects Sydney, we design homes that balance tradition, comfort, and practicality. Our Traditional Homestead project in Warren, north-western NSW, was created for a young farming family who needed a sanctuary after long working days, while also supporting the demands of raising four children.

Replacing a farmhouse that had served five generations, the new homestead design respects the history of the original while offering modern comfort. With spacious living areas, butler’s pantry, mudroom, cool room, luxury bathrooms, and outdoor spaces, this home is built for both daily family life and large gatherings.

Set on flat, flood-prone farmland in the Macquarie River catchment, the homestead sits on raised land to protect it from inundation. Its verandah overlooks a billabong (known locally as a cowell), offering both visual and recreational relief in the warmer months.

We focus on rural home design in NSW that combines comfort with practicality – from high ceilings and large windows for airflow, to layouts that separate the homestead and garden from the working farm. The result is a timeless farmhouse design that serves as both a private retreat and a gathering place for extended family.

For traditional homestead architecture, rural properties, and family homes in country Australia, trust Michael Bell Architects to deliver spaces that work beautifully for modern living while respecting heritage.
