On July 15th, 2021, Anabell Castellanos, MA, led the ReadySetConnect July Webinar on Child Development (0–5). The session highlighted how children grow, not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally during these critical early years.
Castellanos emphasized that “Every child has a job”—important roles they take on as they move through developmental stages. For example:
Explorer (around age 1): Engaging with their environment to understand cause and effect.
Boss (around age 2): Learning independence, decision-making, and testing boundaries.
Pal (around age 3–4): Building friendships and understanding teamwork.
Adventurer (around age 5): Gaining confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.
These stages encourage the development of social and physical skills essential for later life. One key theme was that play is vital. For instance, a child jumping rope not only practices coordination but also learns patience while waiting their turn—skills that translate into strong
