Hobby Or Business?

I came across an interesting article today from Willie Crawford which I think would be an interesting read for you.  I know it was for me.  It poses a question that we as internet business people don't think of.  Is your internet business something you take seriously like a real business owner would or is it just a hobby...something you do in your spare time?  Food for thought definitely.  Speaking of which, Linda Caroll has another thought provoking question in her article, Kenneth has the low-down on the Google/Blogspot Blog Deleting Fiasco, and Shelley Xenia was kind enough to send in a useful spring cleaning tip for all of us.  Heaven knows I could use it.  Good stuff in this issue of the digest.  Grab a coffee or tea, your comfortable desk chair and settle in for a good read.

Unique Talent Trumps Everything

Success secrets are everywhere if you know how to recognize them.

In an article about "American Idol" at CNN, the writer mused that in previous years, the age limit was 24. The age limit was increased to 28, and 6 of this year's top 10 are 25+

The article went on to say that Barry Manilow (59) is beating Black Eyed Peas (young group) on the charts. Madonna, at 47, is still the dance music chart-topper.

Then TVT Records founder Steve Gottlieb dropped the winning line when he said; "No one gets a free pass, and unique talent trumps everything else."

You know, I think that's the mistake a lot of people are making online.

You see people hawking "internet marketing" products when they've never made a decent income online themselves.

You see people that aren't the picture of health selling health products.

You see people that know nothing about Internet Services trying to sell them.

I could go on, but you get the point.

How does your talent, knowledge and passion stack up against others that have talent, knowledge and passion in your field?

Passion, knowledge and talent (skill) walk hand in hand with success and longevity. No one gets a free pass.

Do you have a unique talent for what you do?
Food for thought?

Spring Cleaning Tip - Courtesy of Shelly Hargis

I don't know about You, But I have a Bad Habit of letting things Pile up. Papers and Junk shoved in every Closet and Drawer, things such as this. I am tired of being unorganized and embarrassed to let anyone see my Closets or Drawers so I am doing some Spring Cleaning of my own.

I went to my local Dollar store and asked if they had any extra Boxes. They usually do, especially on stock days.

I decided to go through one shelf, closet, Drawer, etc., at a Time and use these boxes, and some trash bags of course, and divide everything up into 3 categories. Trash, Keep, and Yard Sale (or Giveaway). It is Amazing how much Trash that we can collect, LOL. It made it so much easier to organize things one at a Time. It is so easy to get Overwhelmed by it all.

I hope this suggestion helps you to a Better and More Organized Spring.
Happy Spring Cleaning Everyone.

Shelly

Evil Google Blogspot Blog Removal Problem Bites Google.

For several weeks now I have been seeing many complaints from Blogspot users.

Today I received an email notice from a blogging group and I just can't continue to watch what is happening and not inform those that haven't been affected yet.

Here is what was sent to me (and permission to share):

===========================

Google continues to get it wrong with regard to deleting blogspot blogs using automated methods.

My 77 year old mother-in-law's family history blog was deleted.

Porno spammers and phone sex sites now occupy the top positions on Google, Yahoo and MSN for some completely non-adult related terms because Google refuses to acknowledge they have a problem.

Matt Cutts (Google spam engineer) has ignored comment posts on his blog about the issue.

The link below is another interesting article on the problem Google is having with identifying which blogs should be automatically deleted to reduce spam.

If your blog has been deleted then don't feel so bad.

Google deleted their own blogspot blog.
http://www.bloggersblog.com/cgi-bin/bloggersblog.pl?bblog=328062
Google actually had recourse and got the blog back.

You have no recourse.

If they delete your blog, it will be gone and some porno spammer will end up owning it.

Some proposed new slogans for Google:

"Evil is as Evil does"
"You get what you pay for"
"Buyer Beware"
"Don't let the door hit you on the way out"
"Google search is like a box of chocolates ... You never know what you're gonna get."

... and a few slogans that are already used ...

"In the end, there will be only one"
- from "Highlander"

"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them"
- J. R. R. Tolkien from "The Lord of the Rings"

Google is also out trying to patent free WiFi and delivery of advertising over wireless. I wonder if they cited my work as prior art.

===========================

This is just one example and I have had other friends and aquaintences tell me similar things how they lost their blog(s) and have not had response from Google at all.

My suggestion is to back up what you have and be ready to move it elsewhere.

backup all entries and copy your template into notepad so you may continue on a new service if needed.

Is Internet Marketing A Hobby or A Business For You?
Copyright 2006 by Willie Crawford

As an Internet marketing consultant, and fairly high visibility
online marketer, I get to see a lot of things that the average
person doesn't. By studying what other successful online
businesses are doing, I was finally able to "break the code
myself."

If you're struggling to make your first $50,000 dollars online,
it's hard to IMAGINE the possibilities.

I personally know of an online marketer who is earning
nine hundred fifty thousand dollars a year selling STOCK!

I personally know a man in the UK earning twenty-five
thousand dollars a month selling Internet marketing videos.
I sold him the reprint license!

I personally know a high-schooler earnings thousand just by
introducing people. He brokers joint ventures for others
and earns a hefty commission.

I know of another man earning millions selling products that
he doesn't even own - on Ebay. He never takes possession
of the items, or personally handles them in any way. He just lists
the items for a percentage commission... and makes millions.

When you see how ordinary people are making their online
fortunes, you see just how possible it is for you too. You
also see that there are only a few real differences between
those doing incredibly well and those who will never even
"break even."

One of the first differences you'll notice is that the people
in the examples above think of their online business as a
REAL business. Even if they are operating from a spare
corner of the kitchen table, they do the things they would
do if they were running a large corporation....

- They have business plans
- They have budgets and cash flow projections
- They use methods of promotion that are proven to work
best for them, AND don't use those that are non-productive
- They outsource things that are not suitable for them or
their company to do
- Some of them put in long hours and are actually
workaholics
- Most of them studied what others who were proven
successes were doing and sought their consultation

Another difference you'll notice is that these people are risk
takers. They don't take unreasonable risks, but they are
not afraid of risk either. They know, just as we all do, that
reward is usually directly proportional to risk. Any investor
knows this!

Along the same lines, they also take action. A lot of
business "wannabes" spend too much time thinking about it.
You do need to really analyze things, but then you must
make a decision. The people mentioned above are able to
make decisions... sometimes-tough decisions. Once they
make a decision, they implement it.

The other glaring characteristic they all possess is that
they don't operate in a vacuum. They network with people
with similar interests. They realize that they have to work
WITH their competitors, suppliers, employees, and even
governments to make things happen. They are not afraid
to meet with or call others to bounce an idea off of them.
They realize that they don't know everything and so they
seek those who can fill in the gaps in their knowledge.

These few simple traits are a big part of what I have
observed to be the difference between the successful and
the unsuccessful online businessperson. These same
traits are also a big roadmap to anyone who wants to turn
their online business around and make it more profitable.

Adopt the mindset explained above... you are in business...
there are risks you must take...you have to decide that you
are going to take actions... you need to plan it all out... and
then you need to put your plans in action.

Do this and your online business is no longer a hobby that
you are tinkering with - it is a serious business that you are
treating appropriately. Ask yourself today, are you in business
or are your online activities just a hobby.
